On the morning of May 28, a delegation led by Wang Zhongyi, Chief Representative of Heriot-Watt University’s China and East Asia Office, visited HNU. A symposium was held in the conference room of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange. Vice President Song Ye of HNU attended the meeting, along with relevant representatives from Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Computer and Information Engineering, and Junfu Honors College. The meeting was chaired by Zhao Yang, Director from Office of International Cooperation and Exchange.
Song Ye extended a warm welcome to Wang Zhongyi and his delegation, and briefly introduced the school-running characteristics, disciplinary advantages, and achievements in internationalization of HNU. She pointed out that the two universities are highly complementary in disciplinary layout and talent cultivation, with great cooperation potential. She emphasized that Henan Normal University has always adhered to the concept of open education and actively promoted practical cooperation in such fields as joint undergraduate and postgraduate training, mutual dispatch of teachers, and collaborative scientific research innovation, so as to help improve the quality of cultivating international compound talents and contribute to the development of higher education internationalization.
Wang Zhongyi spoke highly of the achievements made by our university in discipline construction and talent cultivation. He gave a detailed introduction to the school-running history, disciplinary characteristics, and global cooperation network of Heriot-Watt University, with a focus on its strengths in mathematics, computer science and robotics, artificial intelligence, financial accounting, petroleum engineering, and competitive sports training. He expressed his willingness to take this visit as a starting point to deepen cooperation in joint student training, teacher and student exchanges, and joint research on scientific research projects, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
At the meeting, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on issues such as undergraduate and postgraduate programs, double-degree programs, joint postgraduate training programs, and scientific research cooperation, reached a number of cooperation consensuses, and jointly promoted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the two sides.
It is reported that Heriot-Watt University in the UK, founded in 1821, is the eighth higher education institution established in British history and the world's first mechanical engineering college. It ranked 256th in the 2025 QS World University Rankings. The university is a comprehensive research-oriented university, renowned for its programs in mathematics, computer science, finance and accounting, languages, engineering, technology, life sciences, architecture and the environment, and petroleum engineering.
