Recently, the team of Professor Yu Guoying and Professor Wang Lan from the College of Life Sciences at our university published a research paper entitled PTPN1 Regulation via YBX1-PTBP1 Interaction Promotes Fibroblast Activation and Fibrotic Remodeling in the Lung in the International Journal of Biological Sciences. Doctoral students Liu Huibing and Xia Cong are co-first authors of the paper, Professor Wang Lan and Professor Yu Guoying are the corresponding authors, and Henan Normal University is listed as the primary affiliated institution.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic progressive lung disease for which effective treatments remain lacking. Beginning with transcriptomic data, the study identified YBX1, a key RNA-binding protein, and revealed a novel mechanism by which YBX1, through interaction with PTBP1, jointly activates the transcription of PTPN1, thereby driving fibroblast activation. Animal experiments further confirmed that reducing YBX1 expression can effectively inhibit fibroblast activation and the progression of pulmonary fibrosis. This achievement marks another breakthrough by our university in the field of pulmonary fibrosis research and lays an important scientific foundation for the future development of related therapeutic strategies.
This study was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key R&D Program of Henan Province, the Zhongyuan Scholar Program, and other projects.
